Your Guide to OBX Wright Kite Festival

Posted by Content KHK on

This year we celebrate the 47th Annual Wright Kite Festival, a tradition that not only celebrates kite flying but also a tribute to the Wright brothers and their accomplishments in aviation.

A Little Bit of History

The first Wright Kite Festival took place roughly in 1978 and it was a collaboration between Kitty Hawk Kites and the National Park Service. The festival has continually been held exactly where the first flight took place over 3 decades ago, The Wright Brothers National Memorial located in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. Typically a two day event every July, the earliest festivals featured a variety of different activities; large single-line kites, kite making workshops for children of all ages, and both stunt and power-kiting lessons.
